They say that before the seas froze and before the old paths of the world were lost, there were creatures that belonged neither to the present nor to the past. He was one of them.
He had no name then. Names are for people who want to bring order to chaos.
He was born in an era when ice was spreading slowly, as if testing the earth before devouring it. He was small, clumsy, with large eyes that looked at the world as if seeing it for the first time — and each time it was different. Others avoided him. Not because he was dangerous, but because they didn't understand what he was exactly.
He had strength, yes. His teeth could break bones and his tusks could carve a path through the ice. But he never liked to destroy. He preferred to dig. To find. To search beneath the snow, beneath the silence.
One day, as the wind howled like something alive, he found something that shouldn't have been there: a small, warm light buried in the ice. It didn't burn. It didn't melt anything. It just… existed.
He took it.
And from that moment, he changed.
The light didn't make him stronger. It made him more aware. He began to remember things he hadn't lived. To see places he hadn't visited. To feel that the world wasn't just what it seemed.
Others feared him then. Not for his body — but for his gaze.
He left alone.
He passed through storms, crossed nameless lands, and became something of a legend. Some said he was a guardian. Others that he was a curse. He never bothered to choose.
He just kept walking.
And as the years passed, the light within him didn't fade. On the contrary, it became calmer. Deeper.
As if he had finally found the reason he was born.
If you meet him, he won't chase you. He won't test you. He will look at you with those strange, almost human eyes and do something you don't expect from such a creature:
He will weigh you.
Not with force. With something older.
And if he doesn't like what he sees… he doesn't have to do anything.
The world will do it for him.
